Psychiatrist Behind Bars After Bail Security Withdrawn For Assault And Uttering Threats

Psychiatrist Behind Bars After Bail Security Withdrawn For Assault And Uttering Threats

(PRWEB) October 14, 2005

Dr. Larry Anderson, a psychiatrist who was found guilty of three counts of indecent or sexual assault involving three female patients over several years by a jury trial in July, 2005 has been behind bars since September 27 because his bail security was withdrawn when he was charged with two counts of assault and two counts of uttering threats on Sept 7 and Sept 14 in the Princeton, British Columbia area (Court case # 31377).

Since his conviction in July, Dr. Anderson has been free to walk the streets, but now has to await his sentencing hearing for his July 2005 conviction and a bail hearing for his more recent charges in a Penticton, British Columbia, jail cell. The sentencing hearing for his July conviction is tentatively fixed for November 18, 2005.

Anderson is not the only psychiatrist in the world who has been found to sexually assault woman patients. 16 other psychiatrists have lost their license to practice worldwide in just the past 3 months making it a possible case of one psychiatrist losing their license every week for sexual related incidents with woman patients or in one case a child female patient.

According to evidence given during the Anderson trial, The Doctor once put sexual instructions on what a female patient thought was a prescription for anti-depressant drugs. The prescription read: “Take one erection and put it in an appropriate space. Do what is needed to obtain satisfaction”.

Brian Beaumont, spokesperson for the British Columbia chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights said, “Psychiatric sexual assault is a very common occurrence over the world, but all too often the perpetrator is only slapped on the wrist by being given a fine or suspension from practice. Over 300 psychiatrists, psychologists and mental health professionals worldwide have been criminally convicted of sex crimes in the last 27 years according to various court documents and media reports gathered by chapters of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights over the world. Hundreds of others have lost their licenses in that same time period. These figures do not take into account women who have been reluctant to file charges or who were unwilling or unable to come forward”.

A 1997 Canadian study of psychiatrists revealed that of the 10% that admitted to sexually abusing their patients, 80% were repeat offenders. Many had undergone personal analysis or psychotherapy in an unsuccessful effort to rehabilitate themselves.

The complaint processes carried out by various medial boards and colleges are thwarted, in part, by the belief that psychiatrists are somehow above the law and above reproach. However, evidence shows, a woman is at a very great risk of being sexually assaulted while in a psychiatrist’s office. Studies show that between 6% and 13% of psychiatrists and psychologists sexually abuse their patients and, according to one American Journal of Psychiatry study, 80% of psychiatrists reporting sexual contact did so with an average of six patients.

According to a 2001 study, “Sex Between Therapists and Clients,” by Kenneth Pope, a former head of the ethics committee for the American Psychological Association, 1 out of 20 clients who had been sexually abused by their therapist was a minor, the average age being 7 for girls and 12 for boys. The youngest child was 3.

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights was established by the Church of Scientology to investigate and expose psychiatric violations of human rights.

If you know anyone, including a child, who has been abused or harmed by a psychiatrist call The Citizens Commission on Human Rights at 1 800 670 2247. Complete confidentiality assured.

AtlantiCare Selects Third Brigade Host Intrusion Prevention System to Further Enhance Security of Data, Applications and Systems

AtlantiCare Selects Third Brigade Host Intrusion Prevention System to Further Enhance Security of Data, Applications and Systems

Ottawa, ON, and Reston, VA (PRWEB) March 22, 2007

Third Brigade , a security software company that specializes in host intrusion prevention systems, today announced the selection of its software by AtlantiCare , a regional, not-for-profit healthcare organization based in southeastern New Jersey with more than 4,400 employees and 60 locations.

Healthcare organizations rely heavily on critical e-health and enterprise systems that are increasingly accessible via the Internet. As a result, it’s become more challenging and important to protect the availability and integrity of these systems, and the confidentially of sensitive patient and medical data. Host intrusion prevention is a security best-practice and complements the company’s defense-in-depth strategy.

“We recognize the importance of staying ahead of the latest threats, and implementing security best practices to protect our critical e-health systems, and to ensure patient safety and confidentiality.” said Daniel Morreale, CIO of AtlantiCare. “Third Brigade’s host intrusion prevention system reduces vulnerabilities by shielding us from known and zero-hour threats. And by acting as a virtual patch, it shields hard-to-patch and unpatchable systems, and allows us to test and deploy vendor-supplied patches more thoroughly and efficiently.”

Third Brigade Deep Security brings proven network security approaches, including firewall and intrusion detection and prevention, down to individual computers and devices. It shields vulnerabilities in Windows, Linux and Unix operating systems, as well as enterprise and web applications common to healthcare providers.

“Third Brigade helps AtlantiCare comply with tough industry regulations such as Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Sarbanes-Oxley, and Gramm-Leach Bliley Act (GLBA),” said Wael Mohamed, President and CEO of Third Brigade. “Healthcare leaders like AtlantiCare are being proactive in ensuring their EHR and other medical and administrative systems are properly secured from cyber attacks.”

About AtlantiCare

AtlantiCare is a regional healthcare organization based in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, whose more than 4,460 employees serve the healthcare needs of the community at more than 60 locations. It includes AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center (ARMC), the AtlantiCare Foundation, AtlantiCare Health Plans, AtlantiCare Behavioral Health and AtlantiCare Health Services. ARMC earned J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital designation for the third consecutive year for its commitment to providing “An Outstanding Inpatient Experience,” in July, 2006. ARMC became the 105th hospital in the nation to attain status as a Magnet™ designated hospital in March of 2004.

Third Brigade?s Host-Based Intrusion Prevention System Deployed in Industry Canada Security Studies

Third Brigade’s Host-Based Intrusion Prevention System Deployed in Industry Canada Security Studies

Ottawa, ON (PRWEB) October 11, 2006 -–

Third Brigade (http://www.thirdbrigade.com), a security software company that specializes in intrusion prevention systems (IPS), today announced Industry Canada is using its host-based intrusion prevention system in its Protocol Analysis Lab (PAL).

Based in Ottawa, one area of interest of the PAL is the protection of traditional telecommunications as well as Next Generation Networks (NGN). Among its responsibilities is to provide analysis of existing and emerging security threats to these networks, and to be a conduit of collaborative initiatives between government, academia and the telecommunications industry in order to quantify and help resolve these threats.

Third Brigade’s host-based intrusion prevention system is one of the technologies being used by PAL, in its on-going engineering studies into VoIP and NGN security vulnerabilities. Third Brigade’s deep packet inspection engine inspects inbound and outbound traffic streams for malicious code and protocol anomalies that match defined rules.

“Canada is a leader and innovator in telecommunications and security technologies,” said Michael Binder, Assistant Deputy Minister of Industry Canada. “As VoIP is rapidly being adopted by a wide range of users – from government to small business to the home consumer – it is increasingly important that we work to ensure the stability of these networks. Our collaboration with Third Brigade is an excellent example of how federal government labs are working with Canadian technology firms to promote the safe and secure use of new technologies.”

Because VoIP offers a broad range of compelling benefits – including simplified infrastructure, increased scalability, reduced operating costs, improved productivity, and flexibility – it is becoming a strategic focus for governments and businesses alike.

However, like all IP-based applications, it is vulnerable to attacks that can result in service disruptions and theft. By architecting advanced, host-based intrusion prevention technology into their systems, VoIP providers are addressing a key customer concern, and will help ensure the rapid adoption of their products and services.

“Industry Canada is involved in stimulating the study of VoIP security between Government, industry and academia partners ,” said Brian O’Higgins, CTO of Third Brigade. “Third Brigade is on the leading edge of protecting hosts from new and emerging threats. The valuable insights we’re gaining from their studies will help further ensure we’re able to provide the most advanced, practical security solutions for today’s telecommunications systems, and tomorrows.”

About Industry Canada

Industry Canada is committed to fostering a growing competitive, knowledge-based Canadian economy. The department works with Canadians throughout the economy and in all parts of the country to improve conditions for investment, improve Canada’s innovation performance, increase Canada’s share of global trade and build a fair, efficient and competitive marketplace.

Third Brigade, Provider of Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), Adds Security and Healthcare Experts to Advisory Board

Ottawa, Ontario; Reston, Virginia (PRWEB) July 6, 2006

Third Brigade, Inc. (http://www.thirdbrigade.com), a provider of intrusion prevention systems (IPS), today announced the addition of Ira Winkler and Dr. Robert Mandel to its Advisory Board.

Ira Winkler, CISSP, is President of the Internet Security Advisors Group. Mr. Winkler is recognized as one of the world’s experts in Internet security, information warfare, information-related crime investigation, and industrial espionage, and has been named a “Modern Day James Bond” by the media. He is a specialist in penetration testing, where he infiltrates companies, both technically and physically, to find and repair an organization’s weaknesses. He began his career at the National Security Agency (NSA), where he served as an Intelligence and Computer Systems Analyst. He moved on to support other US and overseas government military and intelligence agencies. After leaving government service, he served as President of the Internet Security Advisors Group and Director of Technology of the National Computer Security Association, and Chief Security Strategist for Hewlett-Packard Consulting. He has authored Corporate Espionage, which has been described as the bible of the Information Security field, and the bestselling Through the Eyes of the Enemy.

“Hackers increasingly exploit vulnerabilities in commercial and custom software applications to gain access to critical systems and data,” said Ira Winkler, President of the Internet Security Advisors Group. “Host-based intrusion prevention systems that use proven, practical approaches are central to a defense-in-depth strategy, and help protect organizations from malicious attacks. I look forward to working closely with Third Brigade as they help businesses and governments address the growing security threats.”

Dr. Robert Mandel, MD, MBA and Vice President of Healthcare Services, recently returned to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) from the Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative (MAeHC), where he served as COO for a year. Prior to this, he was Vice President of eHealth at BCBSMA managing the eHealth Program with a significant focus on the eRx Collaborative and piloting medical decision support applications and other technologies that offer the potential of improving the quality and efficiency of care delivery. In addition, Dr. Mandel spent three years as Vice President of Provider Enrollment and Services where he led many of the organization’s administration simplification initiatives.

”With the growing reliance on EHR/EMR and other eHealth systems, it is critical that every effort be made to better ensure the integrity, confidentiality and accessibility of these applications and data” said Dr. Robert Mandel, Vice President of Healthcare Services, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. “Host-based intrusion prevention systems can help providers and payors alike stop attacks that could otherwise reduce quality of care, disrupt services, expose confidential data and increase operating costs.”

“We’re pleased that Ira and Robert have joined our extended team,” noted Brian O’Higgins, CTO of Third Brigade. “Their addition comes at a time when enterprises, particularly those in healthcare, are becoming increasingly concerned with protecting critical servers from attack. Our advisors have tremendous expertise, insights and influence, and we look forward to working closely with them.”

The Third Brigade Advisory Board also includes Dr. Paul Van Oorshcot, Professor in Computer Science, Carleton University, and Sandra Lambert, Managing Partner and Senior Consultant, Lambert & Associates, LLC, and former Chairperson of the Board, Founder and Founding President of ISSA.
