Centre for Suicide Prevention and Millbrook Technologies Inc Launch River of Life

Calgary, Alberta (Vocus) September 9, 2010

Canadians join world-wide efforts to acknowledge World Suicide Prevention Day. East and West have come together in a partnership to help prevent the growing rate of Aboriginal youth suicide.

The Centre for Suicide Prevention developed the content materials and Millbrook Technologies brought these to life in the first ever online Aboriginal suicide prevention training program in the world.

Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo, National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations says, “The River of Life is a practical tool that will be instrumental in building resiliency in communities and we are proud to support this initiative.”

This unique online training program is “Excellent! Covers a difficult topic related to different pieces of history. It has a message of resiliency and hope… it inspires you to do something” (C.E. Bird).

This course is “so much what people are hungry for, looking exactly for this content” (J.S., Youth Health Educator).

Centre for Suicide Prevention

The Centre for Suicide Prevention (CSP) is an education centre specializing in curricula development, training, and providing library and information services. The purpose of the Centre is to inform and equip people with additional knowledge and skills in the prevention of suicide.

“We are hopeful that ongoing discussions with government may result in financial support for this ‘one-of-a-kind’, first ever, online Aboriginal suicide prevention course. How truly proud we are, as Canadians, to offer this to our international friends” (Diane Yackel, CSP Executive Director).

Millbrook Technologies Inc.

Millbrook Technologies Inc. is located in Nova Scotia, Canada and is owned by the Millbrook First Nation. Millbrook Technologies Inc. specializes in the customization of advanced technologies and building unique courseware.

Who should take the program?

The prevention of Aboriginal youth suicide is a community effort and therefore prevention responsibility should not be left to a single person. Front line workers are obviously those directly involved in the health and well being of the youth in their community.

Mental health workers, addiction counsellors, nurses, youth counsellors, community outreach workers, family members and social services personnel are some of those occupations who should be equipped with the skills to identify and enhance the protective factors that will mitigate the risk of suicide.

In addition, we recommend that police officers, teachers, Friendship Centre staff, probation officers, correctional services workers, foster parents, Elders, band council members and clergy also participate.

Unfortunately too many communities wait until they are in crisis to mobilize their resources. The River of Life program has been designed to provide training to a very diverse group of people within the community to work together in the development of community based strategies. The knowledge provided and skills acquired will result in a positive preventative community action plan.

Grand River Launches New E-commerce Web Site for NSF International

Grand River Launches New E-commerce Web Site for NSF International

Ann Arbor, MI (PRWEB) August 10, 2011

Grand River, a leading e-commerce developer, today announced the launch of a new online store for NSF International’s Health Sciences Division and Reference Standards product line. A global, 66-year old public health organization, NSF International protects human health and the environment by certifying products and writing standards for food, water and consumer goods (http://www.nsf.org).

A Magento Enterprise Partner, Grand River designed and developed the new online store using Magento’s Enterprise Edition 1.9. This leading open-source e-commerce platform delivers a scalable, cost-effective, online retail solution with rich features, functionality, and flexibility.

Utilizing its public health expertise and 25 years of pharmaceutical experience, NSF International now provides high quality reference standards for the pharmaceutical and related industries through the new e-commerce site. Pharmaceutical manufacturers worldwide use reference standards to demonstrate the identity, purity, quality and strength of their pharmaceutical products and ingredients. The new online store helps NSF International make affordable reference standards available to the global public health marketplace.

NSF Reference Standards for many commonly tested products are now available at http://www.nsf-rs.org. The NSF Reference Standards program will continue to add new products throughout the remainder of 2011 and 2012, eventually scaling to offer more than 300 different reference standards.

“Our goal is to be the global provider of choice for reference standards,” said Steven Lane, general manager of NSF International’s reference standard program which is a part of the Health Sciences Division. “The new online store is a natural extension of our mission to set the standard for the quality and purity of pharmaceutical products while offering competitive pricing. We chose Grand River because of their reputation as e-commerce experts and we knew they could design a site to support our global expectations.”

Functionality in the new web site includes content management, search engine optimization, a perpetual shopping cart, promotional marketing tools, customer service, analytics and reporting.

Grand River used their expertise in information architecture, creative design, interface development, integration and system architecture to develop the online store for NSF International. They will soon begin work on a complete redesign of NSF International’s corporate identity site.

“We’re pleased that an organization such as NSF International, with their global reputation for uncompromising quality, has placed their trust in us,” said Scott Robertson, partner and co-founder of Grand River. “The new e-commerce store provides an easy-to-use shopping experience for these complex products and the new corporate site will significantly enhance their brand recognition.”
