CMS Behavioral Health Director to Present at Correctional Mental Health Conferences

Mark C. Fleming, PhD., Director of Behavioral Health Services–Correctional Medical Services, Inc. (CMS), will present at both the Mental Health in Corrections Conference (MHCC) in Chicago and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) Updates in Correctional Health Care conference in Phoenix. At the MHCC 2011 Conference, Fleming will conduct a workshop entitled “Behavioral Health Challenges and Solutions for Prisoner Reentry.” The presentation will increase participants’ abilities to comprehend and identify the prevalence of offenders discharged with severe mental illness, such as psychosis and Bipolar Disorder, as well as the co-morbidity of serious mental disorders with drug addiction. In addition, Fleming will explore barriers to successful renentry and best practice approaches for effective monitoring and follow up.

“Successful reentry into society for inmates with mental illnesses is fraught with challenges,” said Dr. Mark Fleming, PhD. “My presentation will enable correctional professional to better understand severe mental illness among inmates, to recognize barriers to reentry and to employ methods for establishing links in the community for successful follow up.”

Fleming will also present at the NCCHC Updates in Correctional Health Care conference in Phoenix. The presentation is entitled, “Infusing Multi-Cultural Awareness into Correctional Mental Health.” The workshop is designed to help correctional mental health staff integrate cultural markers such as race, gender identity and sexual identity into successful strategies for better delivery of mental health services.

“My presentation at the NCCHC Updates conference will help clinicians better understand how cultural context affects their patients as well as themselves,” noted Fleming. “The workshop will show clinicians how to begin the process of creating a multi-culturally aware mental health program.”

The MHCC 2011 Conference takes place April 19-20 in Chicago, Ill. The NCCHC Updates conference occurs May 21-24 in Phoenix, Ariz.

Hayburn brings over 25 years of experience in food manufacturing, food safety and auditing and will be an major asset in supporting and ensuring the seamless execution of the company’s current projects, as they continue to expand and grow both in scope and reach.

Prior to joining QMI-SAI Global, Gordon Hayburn was the Director of Compliance and VP of Food Safety and Quality at Tata Global Beverages, where he managed the Global Compliance function with complete product portfolio responsibilities while also leading the Worldwide Quality Assurance division.

Previously, Hayburn worked at University of Wales Institute Cardiff as a Senior Lecturer, where he planned and delivered lectures and seminars in Food Science/Technology, Food Safety and Food Law for BSc. (Hons.) and MSc. Students. He also introduced new courses on HACCP, Food Safety Management and Auditing and Risk Assessment, which allowed students to train towards becoming certified food safety auditors.

Hayburn also worked as an Independent Safety Consultant and provided consulting services in food safety management and comprehensive training in the areas of Food Safety, HACCP, legislation and health and safety for manufacturers and leading multiple retailers throughout the UK.

Gordon held the Senior Food Technologist position at Meat & Livestock Commission/EFSIS, where he was involved at the launch of EFSIS and has subsequently audited all sectors covered by the BRC standards. Gordon’s earliest roles include Environmental Health & Food Technologist at London Borough of Waltham Forest, Technical Manager at Pastamania and Quality Assurance Supervisor at Coca-Cola.

Today, Gordon Hayburn is a Fellow and Chartered Scientist of the Institute of Food Science & Technology, a member of the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland and a member of both the Food & Drugs Law Institute and the European Food Law Association.

An experienced professional that has extensive knowledge of Food Industry worldwide, Hayburn is a skilled trainer and lecturer who is frequently called as an expert witness in legal proceedings and as a food safety specialist in the international media.

In addition to being a graduate Food Technologist, Hayburn has MSc. in Food Safety and Control and LLM in Food Law. He also has additional qualifications and training in HACCP, Auditing, Food Defense and a variety of ISO Standards, having worked as a lead assessor for both the ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 standards. Gordon has published and presented his PhD both in the UK and internationally.
