Psychiatrist Behind Bars After Bail Security Withdrawn For Assault And Uttering Threats

Psychiatrist Behind Bars After Bail Security Withdrawn For Assault And Uttering Threats

(PRWEB) October 14, 2005

Dr. Larry Anderson, a psychiatrist who was found guilty of three counts of indecent or sexual assault involving three female patients over several years by a jury trial in July, 2005 has been behind bars since September 27 because his bail security was withdrawn when he was charged with two counts of assault and two counts of uttering threats on Sept 7 and Sept 14 in the Princeton, British Columbia area (Court case # 31377).

Since his conviction in July, Dr. Anderson has been free to walk the streets, but now has to await his sentencing hearing for his July 2005 conviction and a bail hearing for his more recent charges in a Penticton, British Columbia, jail cell. The sentencing hearing for his July conviction is tentatively fixed for November 18, 2005.

Anderson is not the only psychiatrist in the world who has been found to sexually assault woman patients. 16 other psychiatrists have lost their license to practice worldwide in just the past 3 months making it a possible case of one psychiatrist losing their license every week for sexual related incidents with woman patients or in one case a child female patient.

According to evidence given during the Anderson trial, The Doctor once put sexual instructions on what a female patient thought was a prescription for anti-depressant drugs. The prescription read: “Take one erection and put it in an appropriate space. Do what is needed to obtain satisfaction”.

Brian Beaumont, spokesperson for the British Columbia chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights said, “Psychiatric sexual assault is a very common occurrence over the world, but all too often the perpetrator is only slapped on the wrist by being given a fine or suspension from practice. Over 300 psychiatrists, psychologists and mental health professionals worldwide have been criminally convicted of sex crimes in the last 27 years according to various court documents and media reports gathered by chapters of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights over the world. Hundreds of others have lost their licenses in that same time period. These figures do not take into account women who have been reluctant to file charges or who were unwilling or unable to come forward”.

A 1997 Canadian study of psychiatrists revealed that of the 10% that admitted to sexually abusing their patients, 80% were repeat offenders. Many had undergone personal analysis or psychotherapy in an unsuccessful effort to rehabilitate themselves.

The complaint processes carried out by various medial boards and colleges are thwarted, in part, by the belief that psychiatrists are somehow above the law and above reproach. However, evidence shows, a woman is at a very great risk of being sexually assaulted while in a psychiatrist’s office. Studies show that between 6% and 13% of psychiatrists and psychologists sexually abuse their patients and, according to one American Journal of Psychiatry study, 80% of psychiatrists reporting sexual contact did so with an average of six patients.

According to a 2001 study, “Sex Between Therapists and Clients,” by Kenneth Pope, a former head of the ethics committee for the American Psychological Association, 1 out of 20 clients who had been sexually abused by their therapist was a minor, the average age being 7 for girls and 12 for boys. The youngest child was 3.

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights was established by the Church of Scientology to investigate and expose psychiatric violations of human rights.

If you know anyone, including a child, who has been abused or harmed by a psychiatrist call The Citizens Commission on Human Rights at 1 800 670 2247. Complete confidentiality assured.

Your ISO certification becomes toast after December 15, 2003!

Your ISO certification becomes toast after December 15, 2003!

(PRWEB) September 18, 2003

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, Ontario -(PRWEB) September 16, 2003. What’s the difference? The old standard took a procedural approach (“here are the rules, follow them”). The new standard emphasizes managing a series of process to meet a particular outcome. Because of the options and choices available with the new standard, it appears to cause more chaos then the old standard, where it was easier to be told specifically what to do. The old standard was also very light on talking about an integrated system – individual processes were treated in isolation. Under the new standard there is a need to look at the overall processes.

If you are considering ISO? Most real life companies have one specific goal, and that is to make money, either through offering a product or service. Your specialty is what starts the customers interest, but after that, it is the consistency and quality of your product or service, that will sustain your revenue growth. Quality comes from understanding your work processes, documenting them, and following them. In reality, any sound operation already engaged in good business practices, will already have this thought process. For them, the new ISO merely formalizes through documentation, what is already known.

Taking care of customer satisfaction is a philosophy emphasized throughout the new ISO – but isn’t that what you’re already doing?

Intrinsic Magic supplies a ready to roll quality management system package (quality manual, full set of system level procedures, and a list of required process documents) in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001: 2000. A full support service is available also with the package. You can have an up and running ISO 9001: 2000 tailored quality management system in as short a time as 6 months!

University of New England Strengthens Partnership in Ghana With Hands-On Outreach and Research and Education Symposium

University of New England Strengthens Partnership in Ghana With Hands-On Outreach and Research and Education Symposium

UNE Doctor of Physical Therapy student Megan Wyand checks the weight of donated medical supplies bound for Ghana

Biddeford and Portland, ME (PRWEB) July 29, 2011

The Ghana Health Partnership (GHP) was established as a formal program in spring 2010 to improve the health of the people of western Ghana through development and implementation of collaborative research, education and training programs with local and international partners. Its partners include the University of New England, University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana Health Service (GHS), Ghana Health Mission, Inc. (GHM) and the Institute for Public Health and Water Research (IPWR).

The partnership grew out of a long-established health outreach program between UNE’s Westbrook College of Health Professions and the U.S.-based Ghana Health Mission, Inc. Close to 100 students and faculty from across all UNE Colleges have participated in five exchanges since 2008, providing direct care services, community health education and other unique programs in urban and rural communities in the Sekondi/Takoradi regions of western Ghana.

The UNE Center for Community and Public Health (CCPH), which conducts research, demonstration and planning studies throughout the U.S. and abroad, houses the partnership at UNE. The partnership through CCPH submitted three research grants over the past year—one on chronic disease and two on maternal and child health-system strengthening.

The 21 UNE students and faculty participating this summer comprise an interprofessional group of physicians, physician assistants (PA), pharmacists, nurses, physical therapists and dental hygienists, as well as undergraduate medical biology majors. Also joining the group is UNE alum Kathleen Keller, PA-C, a 2009 PA graduate who says, “I had the extreme honor of going to Ghana as a PA student, and it continues to shape my daily practice. I am very much looking forward to going again. I found the experience quite humbling and full of valuable learning experiences.”

The Ghana Health Service Western Region Director, Dr. Linda Vanotoo, as well as three GHM nurses, a dentist and an ophthalmologist, will join the team in August. Cataracts, river blindness and trachoma are common eye conditions in the region.

UNE volunteers have gathered 225 pounds of medical supplies donated by Portland-based Partners for World Health, which the team will use and distribute at the health mission in Sekondi.

In November 2010, leaders from the University of Cape Coast and Ghana Health Partnership traveled to Portland, Maine to participate in Ghana Health Week, a week of informative meetings, presentations, and faculty/student exchanges, combined with cultural events such as African drumming and dancing. On August 10-11, they are collaborating once again for an academic symposium, but this year will gather in Ghana at the University of Cape Coast’s oceanfront campus.

The 2011 symposium will focus on research and educational strategies that advance the work of the partnership, and the plenary session is entitled, “Excellence in Higher Education Across Borders.” Additional topics include:

Sustainability of Chronic Disease Practice Innovations in Low Resource Communities
Models of Change for Improving Maternal and Child Health in Rural Communities
Water and Sanitation – Advancing Water Research That Impacts Health Status
Sharing Evidence-Based Strategies for the Care of Rheumatologic Disorders
Problem-based, Case-based Learning Teaching Methodologies – Lessons Learned and Shared from the University of Cape Coast
Simulation Strategies to Introduce, Model and Educate Complex Health Situations
Collaborative Strategies for Teaching, Implementing and Sustaining Cultural Understanding Within a Cross-Cultural Partnership
Student Presentation on the Ghana Health Mission

Ottawa Welcomes President Obama in First Foreign Trip as U.S. President

Ottawa Welcomes President Obama in First Foreign Trip as U.S. President

Canadian Tulip Festival Presents Tulip to American Embassy

Ottawa (Vocus) February 18, 2009

– U.S. President Barack Obama will make his first foreign visit as President on Thursday, February 19, spending the day in Ottawa, Canada’s capital city. Short videos of Ottawans welcoming the President and giving him advice on what he should see in Ottawa and know about Canadians have been posted at http://www.ottawatourism.ca (direct link is http://www.ottawatourism.ca/en/multimedia-a-images/video).

To celebrate the occasion, the local tourism industry has created several Obama-themed offerings, including:

The Obama BeaverTail, also known as an ObamaTail. A BeaverTailTM is a hot pastry treat born in Ottawa. It’s made of wholewheat dough stretched into the shape of the tail of one of Canada’s national symbols–the beaver–then float cooked in canola oil and served hot with a variety of delectable toppings. Usually Canadians choose from a topping of cinnamon and sugar, chocolate hazelnut, maple butter or apple cinnamon but on February 19, the ObamaTail will be served with cinnamon and sugar, then a whipped cream “O” topped with chocolate sauce and a splash of maple. They’re $ 3.75 each at the flagship store in the ByWard Market neighbourhood, or $ 4 each at kiosks along the Rideau Canal Skateway. ObamaTails were also served to 1000 guests of the Canadian Embassy in Washington during President Obama’s January inauguration. http://www.beavertails.ca
A five-foot tulip painted (see photo at right) with President Obama’s likeness by Ottawa artist Jill Alexander will be presented to the Embassy of the United States by the Canadian Tulip Festival. This annual event in Ottawa is the world’s largest tulip festival and runs May 1-18, 2009. Similar large painted tulips decorate the major festival sites. http://www.tulipfestival.ca
A non-alcoholic Obama Hawaiian Punch will be served to all guests at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Ottawa Airport on February 19. http://www.hieottawa.com
An Obama-themed menu will be offered on February 18 and 19 at Graffiti’s Italian Eatery at the Holiday Inn Select in Kanata (west Ottawa). The menu features the Senator Obama Chicago-Style Omelette, the Barack Burger, the Inaugural Dinner Washington-Style and the Obamatini! http://www.hisottawa.ca
And “Claudio the Soup Guy” at Muffins Plus in the World Exchange Plaza’s food court downtown continues to sell out of his President Obama Chili Soup. He’s been making it–and selling out–since President Obama’s election in November.

Ottawa is a city brimming with internationally renowned museums, cultural attractions, a thriving culinary scene and a four-season outdoor paradise for those who like to bike, kayak, canoe, jog, or skate! President Obama’s visit comes just before the final weekend of Winterlude, Canada’s winter celebration, which features skating on the frozen Rideau Canal, snow and ice sculptures, outdoor concerts, children’s snow playgrounds, and all types of outdoor activities. http://www.winterlude.gc.ca

Ottawa Tourism Launches Demonstration Vacation

Ottawa Tourism Launches Demonstration Vacation

Ottawa, ON (Vocus/PRWEB) April 01, 2011

Ottawa Tourism today launched a new getaway package, called the Demonstration Vacation, to encourage Canadians and others to visit and exert their freedom of speech while in Canada’s capital.

The package includes two nights’ accommodation at one of a variety of hotels, a permit, two blank placards, two one-inch wooden sticks and a Sharpie (black only).

“We’ve done the research,” says Noel Buckley, the President and CEO of Ottawa Tourism. “There’s a real demand for people to express themselves peacefully on Parliament Hill. If we can make it easier for them to book their stays through our website, it’s a win-win situation!”

Ottawa Tourism already offers a variety of packages for people looking to rest and recharge (Sip, Savour and Spa) learn more about Canada (Get to Know Your Canada) or enjoy the Canadian Tulip Festival in May (Tulip Celebration) and the Demonstration Vacation simply adds to the mix.

“The announcement of a federal election just days ago was a happy coincidence,” says Buckley. “We feel there is a definite market among advocates of free speech for the one-stop-shopping experience Ottawa Tourism is offering with the Demonstration Vacation.”

This is just the latest creative venture from Ottawa Tourism, which earlier this year revamped its website and partnered with the City of Ottawa and local developer Purple Forge on the Discover Ottawa app, available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Ottawa Tourism provides industry leadership and destination marketing to service the travel media and attract visitors, tours and conventions to Ottawa and Canada’s Capital Region. Visit Ottawa Tourism at their attached website.

Dave Williams and Fellow Astronauts Thank Neptec for Performance on Endeavour Mission

Dave Williams and Fellow Astronauts Thank Neptec for Performance on Endeavour Mission

Ottawa, ON (PRWEB) October 30, 2007

OTTAWA, Canada – October 30, 2007 – Yesterday, the crew of the STS-118 Endeavour Shuttle mission visited Neptec Design Group, a leader in intelligent 3D vision systems for military, manufacturing and aerospace applications. The crew, which includes Canadian Space Agency astronaut Dave Williams, provided Neptec with an overview of the mission and discussed the success of Neptec’s Laser Camera System (LCS).

The LCS, a laser-based 3D scanner mandatory on every shuttle mission, was used on the August STS-118 mission to examine an area of damage on the outer thermal protective system and provide NASA with the information needed to ensure that the Shuttle and its crew would safely return to Earth at the end of the mission.

“I am very proud that Canadian technology is playing such a critical role on the international space program,” said Williams. “Neptec’s LCS did exactly what was asked of it and helped to ensure we all returned home safe and sound.”

The LCS became a critical component on the Endeavor’s mission when damage to the underside of the shuttle’s hull was discovered. During takeoff, insulating foam from the external fuel tanks broke away and struck areas of the Endeavour’s thermal protective system. Neptec’s LCS was used to recreate exact replicas of the damaged thermal tile that could be carefully examined and tested in simulation environments. NASA determined the area, which was found to be 3.5 inches in length and 2.0 inches wide, would not cause any risk to the Shuttle or its crew when it returned through the Earth’s atmosphere.

“It’s always a great thrill when a shuttle crew does us the honour of coming for a visit after a flight. We are privileged at Neptec to be able to see the concrete results of the hard work that everyone here does every day,” said Dr. Iain Christie, President of Neptec. “The LCS played a crucial role on the STS-118 mission, and this debrief is important to ensure the next generation of Neptec systems integrate the ideas from the end-users – in this instance, NASA astronauts in orbit.”

About Neptec

Specializing in intelligent machine vision systems, Neptec maintains a reputation of quality and reliability in the design, manufacturing, installation and support of its products with the Space Shuttle, International Space Station, and other major space programs. With new solutions for the aerospace and defense industries, Neptec, a NASA prime contractor, continues to be a pioneer in the innovative use of intelligent 3D machine vision systems for mission critical applications.
